Check it out...Here's a very unique 8 1/2" wide by 11" long typed letter from 1919 on the letterhead of the: "United States Post Office. Office of the Postmaster Indianapolis Indiana" that was sent to prominent Peru Indiana Judge Albert Harvey Cole who was a prominent congressional candidate and member of the Cole brothers circus family. The letter reads: "March 20, 1919. Mr Albert H Cole, Peru, Indiana. My dear Harvey: – I have been appointed Vice Director for the Indiana War Savings committee for this current year under Mr. Robert E Springsteen, the director, and Mister Springsteen wants me to write to you to ask you to take the chairmanship of Miami County committee on War Savings this year. I have the impression that you has something to do with that last year, but whether you did or not, Mister Springsteen is very anxious for you to take it on now, and I am writing to reinforce that request. The work this year will be somewhat different from that of last year, being largely educational with two objects in view: (1) The Sale of Stamps. (2) The Education of people in the habit of saving and proper spending. It is not the intention to have drives or any tense, nervous effort at filling quotas – the object is more teaching men, women and children of the state and nation to save their money and spend it wisely. This is largely a matter of education and with the cooperation of the county chairman throughout the state, I am sure that the campaign will bear results in the way of the formation of proper habits. We are going to assume that you will take this responsibility and get your organization in shape for the work. Sincerely, (signed in ink) Fred B. Johnson Vice Director War Savings Committee." – Folded as mailed.1919 Peru Indiana World War I Savings Committee letter-Cole Brothers Circus too!

Terms of Sale
I try and place a penny in every photo to help judge the size of the item, obviously it is there for size comparison and is not included with the item. The standard sized Lincoln head penny in the photograph is there for size comparison ONLY and is not included in the package. We're just trying to help you figure out how big the item is. We try and always be as accurate as we can in the item
description and will gladly answer any question about item size & description when needed. Please e-mail us with any questions BEFORE the end of sale and BEFORE placing a bid. Postage is determined by the U.S. Postal service and is never refundable. Many of the items are VINTAGE and although they are in very fine condition, they may not function as well as when they were made decades ago. So if you intend on using the old item, please be aware that we are selling it for collector value only. In other words, if you intend on using a 50+ year old letter opener and it breaks, don't get mad at us. It may be hard to believe, but we have received a couple negatives because people broke vintage items while trying to use them.
