  • Condition: This note has a ragged top margin with 11 splits, the largest is 3/16th of an inch and most of them are 1/8 of an inch or less. The bottom margin has around 6 splits, the longest again being 3/16th of an inch. The left side margin has five splits, the largest being 1/8 of an inch long, only two of which are clearly noticeable in the scan. None of those five splits make it into the design. The right-side margin has two splits, the most visible is a 1/4th of an inch split that stops just short of touching the design, there is a tiny amount of paper loss. The second split is just below the first split, measures 5/16 ths of an inch and goes into the design by about 1/8th of an inch, but is closed up nicely. There are about 30 pinholes in the note, many are scattered inside the 20 Medallion at the center of the note, two of the 30 pinholes are small splits, one being 3/16 of an inch the other is 1/8 of an inch. If you don’t see any paper in the scan, you have to assume that its gone.

    Up for auction is this .00 Series 1869 Legal Tender, otherwise referred to as a .00 Rainbow Note.
    This note features the obverse vignette of “
    Alexander Hamilton
    ” at left and “
    Victory
    advancing holding shield & sword
    “ at right.
    The obverse of this note was printed at the Bureau of Engraving & Printing in Washington DC.
    The reverse vignette features the Arabic numeral 20 at right and Roman Numeral XX to the left of center.
    The “20” is repeated 105 times on the reverse, while the “XX” is repeated 103 times.
    The reverse of this note has intricate lathe work and was printed by American Bank Note Company.
    This reverse is
    unique
    to the Series 1869 Legal Tender Rainbow Note, this makes it a one-year type, and a note that is needed by
    EVERYONE
    assembling a Large Type Note collection!!

    I have attempted to mark the larger splits in orange on the scans. This note is well worn and used but actually retains nice color and contrast for the grade.
    I would grade this note as a Very Good, the note does have splits but it is almost all there and intact.
    Please look at the scans carefully and judge the grade and quality of this note for yourself before bidding.
    This note should appeal to the budget minded collector, who wants to own an affordable example of this design.
