Dated:  March 5th, 1918.

Sir:  In reply to your letter of January 25th regarding a method of producing camouflage by lighting effects, I am directed to inform you that as presented, it appears not to possess any superiority over that of the means now generally used for the same purpose by the armies in Europe.  There is no doubt that an object may be camouflaged to some extent by softening its outlines, but for most purposes, the best results are obtained by eliminating shadows.  The interest shown in submitting your ideas is appreciated, and your suggestions have been filed with the confidential records for future reference.  Very respectfully, G.(?)L. VERY nice watermarked eagle seal in center of page and lower edge.
Measures 8 x 10 1/2 Inches.
CONDITION:  Yellowed from age, especially at edges and folds, rusty spot upper left corner from a paper clip, some brown foxing, and signs of handling throughout the years.  The letter was originally folded twice horizontally to fit into an envelope, and has been stored in a plastic page protector.  The reverse is blank, overall nice piece.
